Competitive Season!

Weeks 1-22 of my training were pre-season base training. This week started the 12 weeks of competitive training which will end with 2 taper weeks and then race day!

Training can’t compare to Cozumel training when I had everyday from 8 to 3 with no other commitments, but I think I am on track and things are going well.

Totals for weeks 1-22 training:

41 hrs 25 min of swimming 128,000 meters

127 hrs 10 min of biking only 253 miles, all of the rest was on the trainer

71 hrs 25 min of running 492 miles

Totals hours training: 241

This weekend I was able to take a girls’ trip down to Austin to run the half marathon. It was 64 degrees with 93% humidity at race start. Lovely. Oh, and the wind! Have some wind! Oh, and the hills! It was a very hilly half. But it was a great race with awesome people. I had a wonderful time and got a 13 mile run to boot. Nice.

Favorite signs at the race: “Insert witty race quote here”

“where are you going?”

Favorite T-Shirt:

“Does this shirt make my butt look fast?”

“Find your happy pace”

We stayed at the host hotel 2 blocks from race start. This picture was taken at 6:00 am from the balcony of our room. Notice all of the people to the right? That was the line for the port-o-potties a full hour before race start! By race start the line was so long you could not find the end. Gotta love race day. Staying at the host hotel means that you get to use your own private bathroom all the way up til the last minute and then you walk out the door and you are at the start line. That is worth the crazy amount that the hotels charge for one night of sleep.

This was taken from our balcony after I finished the half. I came back to the room to get my camera to take some pics down at the finish site. These people are at the 2:30 mark of the half and are about 1/2 mile from the finish.

The finish line. Halfers to the right, full to the left.
